Virgil, Mrs. James (Oswego Palladium Times, 3 Aug 1928)
MEXICO, Aug 3—Mrs. Esther Virgil, wife of James Virgil, died last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry E. Gibbs, Madison Avenue. She had been ill for some time.
Born in Palermo, March, 20, 1859, a daughter of Caleb and Harriet Doolittle Shattuck. Mrs. Virgil spent most of her life in this section. Her first husband was Willis Halsey of this village who died in 1894. To this union were born two daughters. Two years after the death of Mr. Halsey, Mrs. Virgil was married to James Virgil. She attended the First Methodist Episcopal church of this village.
Surviving are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Florence Potter Gibbs, this village and Mrs. Arthur Oxley of Cicero; two grandsons, Clyde Potter and Jack Oxley.
Funeral services will be held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gibbs, Sunday afternoon, at 2:30. Interment will be made in Mexico Primitive cemetery.
