Rev. Rufus Wheelock,
1814-1891
Attaching a photo of Rev. Rufus Wheelock,
1814-1891--son of Judith Foster.
He was Congregational minister--His parents moved
from Vt and MS to Orwell, Otsego Co in about 1820 and to Mannsville in
Jefferson Co in abt. 1822. He grew up in Mannsville and was
living there when he died. He served churches in Jefferson, Oswego
and Lewis Counites. His obituary in the Jefferson Co Journal said
he died while visiting his son in Union Square in Oswego Co. He had
preached there on Sun, Nov 29th and had a stroke in the night and was comatose
until his death on Dec 2nd. It stated he was born in Putney VT Mar
3 1814 nearly 77. Came at 8 to Mannsville with his parents. Attended
Union Academy, Whitestown Seminary and then Auburn Theological Seminary.
