Willis Weed of the village of Ellisburg died very suddenly Tuesday morning.  He rode his wheel from his home to the barn on Hawley farm on the Woodville road and then suddenly dropped dead.  The funeral was held today at 2 p.m. and the interment is at Ellisburg.  Mr. Weed was the eldest son of Newton Weed and was born in the western part of the town of Sandy Creek forty-five years ago, but has lived in Ellisburg about fifteen years.  He is survived by his wife, father and mother, one brother and six sisters C.E. Weed, Mrs. L.H. Phillips, Mrs Ed VanAuken, Mrs. S.E. Wheeler, Mrs. T. J. Burnham, Misses Cora and Lena Weed.  Mr. Weed had been as well as usual and was engaged in erecting a silo for F. E. Hudson & Sons.  His sudden death casts a gloom over the village and much sympathy is felt for the family. 

     Newton M. Weed was born in the town of Richland, Oswego County, N. Y., January 25, 1832, and died at his home in the town of Sandy Creek, N. Y., September 5, 1905.  On the twenty-third of February, 1854, he was united in marriage to Miss Emily Woodard, of Sandy Creek, with whom he lived over fifty years. 

     Mr. Weed lived in the immediate vicinity of his late home over sixty years.  Of his eight children all grew to maturity and there was not a death in his family for over fifty years.  He joined the Methodist church in early manhood and was a class leader at the age of twenty-six. 

     Brother Weed was bereaved by the death of his son Willis, September 20, 1904, and by the death of his wife, October 17, 1904.  The removal of these so near together was a severe strain upon him in his advancing years.  He is survived by by one son, Charles E. Weed, of Sandy Creek, and six daughters:  Mrs. S.E. Wheeler, Mrs. Edward VanAuken, Mrs. T. J. Burnham, Mrs. I. H. Phillips, Lena and Cora Weed. 

    The funeral was held from his home Thursday, September seventh, the pastor of the West Sandy Creek M.E. church, conducting the service.  The burial was at Sandy Creek. 

     Mrs. Emily Woodard Weed, wife of Newton Weed, was born in the town of Sandy Creek, N. Y., April 9, 1835 and died at her home in the same town October 17, 1904.  She was a daughter of Charles Woodard, one of eight children of whom only one remains, Mrs. Mary Joslyn of Sandy Creek. 

     She was united in marriage with Mr. Weed February 28, 1854 with whom she spent over half a century of wedded life.  She leaves seven children, Mrs. S. E. Wheeler, Mrs. Edward VanAuken, Cora, Charles E. and Lena of Sandy Creek, and Mrs. T. J. Burnham and Mrs.. I. H. Phillips of Henderson, N. Y.  Her older son, Willis, preceeded her, dying at Ellisburg, September 20, 1904.

     Mrs. Weed was seldom seen away from her own home, but she had a large circle of friends who sympathize with the husband and children and morn with them their loss.  She was ill for nearly a year and confined to her bed for over three months.  She was converted in 1879 and gave her name to the M.E. church at Goodenough.  She proved the sincerity of her faith in her home life and bore the suffering during her long illness with christian fortitude.  She enjoyed christian fellowship and confessed her faith in Christ and her hope of the inheritance beyond and longed to be at rest. 

     The funeral was held from the Goodenough M.E. church Wednesday, October 19.  Her pastor, Rev. O.M. Kelly preached a sermon from II Timothy 11:19, “The Lord knoweth them that are his.” And her body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Sandy Creek.

Died at Pulaski November 11, 1883, Almira Weed, age 79.  Mrs. Weed was the widow of Townsend Weed, long since deceased and a prominent citizen of this citizen of this village.  Mrs. Weed came to this village with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Maltby 72 years ago and has always lived here since that time.  She was for many years a member of the Pulaski Concgregational church.  Two of the children and two of the grandchildren of Mrs. Weed have been compositors in this newspaper office.  It was noteworthy of her that she never spoke against anyone, but always kindly if at all.  Only two children survive her, Ira T. Weed and Mrs. Abram David. 

Died in this village, February 24th, 1878, of consumption, Florance F. Weed, aged 23 years and six months.
The deceased was a brother of Mr. W. E. Weed, foreman in the Democrat office.  He was a printer by occupation, and the most rapid compositor in this portion of the state.  He learned his trade in the village and has been connected with the Times and Dispatch of Watertown, Republican, of Carthage, and the Journal and Republican of Lowville.  He leaves a wife and many friends who deeply mourn his loss.

Death of F. M. Weed.  Last week the news reached this place of the death of Fayette M. Weed, at Vinton, Iowa, on the 13th inst, of heart disease – aged nearly 25 years.  He learned his trade as a printer in this office, and was a compositor here for a considerable time.  Some two years since, he married the adopted daughter of Mrs. Butterfield, of Mexico, and removed to Vinton, where he for some time assisted in the conduct of a paper.  He leaves a wife and child.

     Miss Margaret Weed died Monday, March 15, at her home, Pulaski, age 84 years.  She had been ill about five weeks.  Miss Weed’s home had always been in the little frame dwelling house in North Street, said to be the oldest dwelling in the village, having been built in 1816.  There are no near relatives.  The funeral was held from the Baptist church at two p.m., Wednesday.

      Funeral services for Miss Alice R. Weed, who died at Richland, Monday, January 29, 1940, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Foster funeral home in Pulaski. 
     Miss Weed was born May 2, 1857, daughter of William and Mary Page Weed of Daysville.  Nearly all of her life was spent around Daysville until she moved recently to Richland where she has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. John Turo.  Only two sisters, both of whom live in the west survive.

      Myron Weed was born in Oswego County, N. Y. nearly seventy five years ago and died April 8, 1907 at the age of 74 years and 8 mo.  He removed to Nebraska in 1890 and has lived in and near Bloomington ever since.  For 30 years he was an active member in the M.E. Church and a devout christian.  The funeral services were conducted in the church at Bloomington and the remains laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery north west of town.  A widow and six children live to mourn his death to whom innumerable friends proffer their deepest sympathies. 

Note:  Myron Weed was the son of John Weed, Jr. and Emily Frary Weed of Richland, NY.   He  was also the brother of Newton M. Weed .  Per Charlene Weed

     Lucy Lavina Douglas was born at Mexico, Oswego County, NY Aug 26,1843 and died at the home of her son Myron Herbert Weed, June 21, 1933 at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 26 days.  She came from a family of six children being the youngest and surviving the family by 20 years.  On October 15, 1860 she married Myron Weed of Waukegan, Ill.  To this union were born 9 children, 5 of whom are still living DeEtta McClung, Victor or Garfield, Arthur, Myron Herbert and Junius Preston.

     Her early childhood days were spent in NYS.  Later she lived for a time in Illinois, Iowa and Bloomington, Ne, finally coming to Haigler, Ne in the early 80’s.  For some years she has made her home with her sons of Laird, Co.  She converted at age 35 and joined the Wesleyn Methodist Church of Maringo, Iowa and upon coming to Haigler, NE she joined the M.E. church by letter where she has been a member until her death.
